It’s part of a new move by the government to finally allow adopted people full legal access to their birth records.
The service will also give access to other early life documents, such as baptismal records. Equality Minister Roderic O’Gorman says the change will make a massive difference:"Over the last number of years, when AAI, when TUSLA, when someone's come to them and sought tracing. These organisations when they start this process immediately encounter the barriers of not being able to, state bodies, agencies not being able to share information. Now tracing will be pushed on a statutory basis and these bodies will have an obligation to share information with TUSLA with AAI when tracing is taking place."
