An Coimisiun Pleanála has refused planning permission for the redevelopment of the site of the Creeslough explosion.

Vivo Shell Limited submitted proposals to redevelop the building at the site where 10 people lost their lives on October 7th, 2022.

Donegal County Council granted planning permission for the redevelopment of a service station at the site in February.

Those plans included demolishing the existing building, and constructing a new property to include a shop, post office, fuel pumps and a memorial garden.

However those proposals were appealed to An Bord Pleanála, now An Coimisuin Pleanála, by lawyers representing bereaved family members.

The body has refused the plans, saying the development would be out of character with its surroundings.

It also says there would be concerns with the safety of people visiting the proposed memorial, due to the significant pedestrian and traffic movement which would take place.
