It's emerged that further government measures may be on the way to help combat sharp increases in the cost of living.

Among the suggestions is a rise in the energy credit up from 100 euro, plus a reduction in Government charges.

Adjunct Professor in Economics at Trinity College - John Fitzgerald - believes we're in for around two years of higher prices, but he says an electricity credit is not the way to deal with it:

"Daft, because you're giving it to everybody. Like I'm going to notice 100 euros of my electricity bill, they should have concentrated that money give us say as an increase in the fuel loans to those who are really badly affected who would notice 200 or 300 euros on their bill are off their bill. The government needs to look at the welfare system to protect those on low incomes. For the rest of us. If the money is going to Vladimir Putin, we may not like it but we don't have much choice."
