Catriona Twomey from Cork Penny Dinners says the rising cost of living and the accommodation crisis are pushing some people onto the streets

She is calling on the Government to introduce more support measures like the scheme to tackle student accommodation.

The new scheme will see the State investing in student housing with universities for the first time

Speaking to RedFM News Catriona Twomey says all renters, including students, will remain in dire situations if rents continue at their current level

"We all hear the stories of students - coach surfing, staying in their cars etc.. so this is really very welcome. And for  families that are worried about their offspring going to college, it kind of lessens the burden for them, but I would also say keep on bringing on the initiatives we need a lot more. We need supports around homelessness as we're facing into a dark bleak winter and everyone should have a home, whether you're a student or not"
