A man on trial for the murder of Paul Jones says he hit him on the head with a bill hook, but isn't responsible for killing him.

43 year old Keith O'Hara, formerly of Cahergal Avenue in Mayfield says his then girlfriend and sister of the victim is responsible for the killing.

Keith O'Hara and his then girlfriend 53 year old Helen Jones are charged with the murder of Paul Jones at his home on Bandon Road on the 4th of September 2019.

Both defendants deny the murder.

At a Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork, O'Hara said that "The dogs and the cat and the rat all know Helen killed her brother."

He also said he feared being "victim number two" and hadn't called an ambulance on the night in question because Helen Jones told him not to.

The trial previously heard evidence from the Chief State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan that Paul Jones- who was found three days after his death- had received 25 stab wounds to his neck, upper arms, abdomen, chest, right armpit and back.

O'Hara also admitted that he lied to Gardaí during his interviews in the aftermath of the murder while under cross examination.

The trial continues today.
