The Environmental Protection Agency has taken legal action against Uisce Éireann over repeated sewage discharge in a West Cork park.

Locals renamed Shannonvale Park to Uisce Éireann Park last year to express their frustration at the parks indefinite closure and concerns about the smell of sewage.

The case was brought to court on the 28th of July and adjourned until September 29th.

Chair of Clean Water Clonakilty Alan Dromy told RedFM News the issue has been going on for an embarrassingly long amount of time:

"As a resident it's a bit of an embarrassment really, it's been going on for 28 years now but we're hopeful with the support of the EPA that we can bring this matter forward and let the court have the decision as to what will happen."
