Sinn Fein has not yet discussed the possibility of endorsing Catherine Connolly for the Presidency, according to one of its TDs.
The Independent Candidate has the support of opposition parties including the Social Democrats, People Before Profit and Labour.
Sinn Fein TD Darren O’Rourke says branch meetings have taken place around the country, to discuss a bid for the Áras.
He says the party will make a decision on who to back in the coming weeks
"It's not really one of the options that was, you know, it came up from the membership, from the consultation, or, I think that the party is considering at this stage. I think it really is a case of a candidate of our own and who that might be, or supporting an external candidate"
