The state could appeal the sentence given to a man for raping his foster daughter over 1,000 times, according to a leading barrister.
Stephen Murray, of Humphreystown, Valleymount, Co Wicklow, has been jailed for 11 years for the abuse of Kelly Kemmy.
It happened while she was under his care from age 11 to 18.
Criminal barrister and Fine Gael senator, Barry Ward, says the Director of Public Prosecutions could look for more jail time for Murray.
"If it is open to the DPP to appeal what's called the unduly leniency of a sentence. There are a number of factors that the court heard, that the DPP must consider before making that decision. But many of them will include, obviously the sentence itself, but also the likelihood of success and the terms that are put into the legislation or that it must be unduly lenient, which is a relatively high bar to meet to to extend the sentence that's been imposed by the sentencing court."
