The number of children living in poverty in the EU has been labelled a 'disgrace'.
A Social Justice Ireland report shows the figure stands at almost 15.8 million, which represents one in five children across Europe.
The organisation says a range of interventions are necessary to address the problem.
CEO Dr Sean Healy says there are long term implications for families affected:
"A number of children continue, year on year to experience poverty, it's a major concern, and I think has long term consequences for the people and families concerned, as well as for the EU as a whole. We're two thirds of a century into the European Union and the fact that we would still have one in five children living in poverty is a disgrace."
