A 31-year-old man who attacked a father-of-two with a samurai sword in county Cork last year has been jailed for life for his murder.
Dylan Scannell of O’Rahilly Street, Cobh, county Cork appeared at the Central Criminal Court in Cork today.
33-year-old father of two Ian Baitson died at Cork University Hospital four days after he was attacked in the car park of the Eurospar on Newtown Road in Cobh on the 15th of March 2024.
A jury found Scannell-who had pleaded guilty to manslaughter- guilty of murder last month.
In one of three victim impact statements delivered in court Ian Baitson’s brother Richard said Ian was a beacon of love, strength and joy.
He said he struggles to fathom how he will endure without his brother’s infectious smile and said Ian deserved so much more time, opportunities and life.
