One third of secondary students attend a single-sex school, but the vast majority of them would prefer co-ed.

The finding is contained in a wider report on schools from the ESRI which involved a survey of over 2,200 pupils.

It found girls were more likely to want to go to a mixed school than boys.

61% of students said they would prefer to attend a co-ed school.
