The Minister for Transport says the Government is going to "get tough" on enforcing laws around driving.

It follows a meeting held yesterday to discuss road safety as 168 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.

11 people have died on Cork roads this year.

The Transport Minister says laws around drink-driving and breaking the speed limit need tighter enforcement.

Speaking to RedFM News, Minister Eamonn Ryan says the Government is clamping down in order to save lives

"The laws are in place, I think it is the enforcement of them that is going to be the key. We are getting tough, all of us, of all political parties and of all persuasions because it's about saving lives, so yes, we have to be absolutely tough on that"
