A group of cost of living campaigners who staged a sit in protest at the Cork offices of Bord Gais Energy say they are open to discussing further similar action to highlight their campaign.

Seven protestors entered the company’s office at Cork Airport Business Park this morning with a banner calling for an end to what they describe as “profiteering” in the energy sector.

The group say Bord Gais has raised its prices five times since last year while recording a 74% rise in profits in the first six months of the year.

The action comes ahead of the third Cost of Living protest in the city this Saturday at 2pm.

Speaking to RedFM News following the sit in, Martina Stafford says the group will discuss further action:

"We haven't discussed it yet but I think really the point is that this isn't going away. This €200 energy credit, that's not going to stop further energy price hikes. So this crisis isn't going anywhere and then there's a looming international recession in the new year so I think we definitely we need to get organized in general you know, ordinary people and communities workplaces, to fight back for better services for price controls for better for higher wages, etc. You know, I think we need to discuss Yeah, further actions like this, you know, that can highlight in general the profiteering that's going on."
