Covid case numbers are at their highest level since the end of January

2,074 new cases of Covid 19 have been confirmed, with 229 patients in hospital with the virus and 43 of them in intensive care.

It comes after the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn said the incidence rate is rising in all age groups and in all counties.

Irish Medical Organisation, Chairperson of the GP Sub-Committee, Dr. Denis McCauley says Donegal GPs have noticed a rise in cases:

This is why I think the numbers will go up, I think we have noticed in Donegal, that the numbers started to go up, and only now we're beginning to see that transforming into a certain level of sickness. Unfortunately there is morbidity and unfortunately mortality associated with these but likely not at the same levels that it was previously, and unfortunately I think the other 26 countries will have to experience that. So that's why I think the will be an increase.
