Three people were rescued from a housefire this morning - after an electrical fire broke out on the northside of the city earlier.

One person had been taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Three units from Ballyvolane and Anglesea Street Fire Stations, the National Ambulance Service, and Gardaí attended the blaze at Hollyhill Heights.

The alarm was raised shortly before 20 past ten this morning.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to reach the bedroom, in which the fire occurred, however there were no serious injuries.

There have been several serous fires in the city in recent days.

Crews from Anglesea Street attended a Commercial fire at a pharmacy in Douglas yesterday evening.

The inside of Lynch’s Pharmacy in Broadale on Maryborough Hill was gutted by the fire, however, no injuries were reported.

Two adjoining businesses, at either side of the pharmacy, have also been badly damaged.

Elsewhere, Gardaí are following a number of lines of inquiry into a serious house fire on Dyke Parade near in city centre on Christmas Day.

Three people were taken to hospital in the suspected arson attack, but have since been released.
