Government Departments have been tasked with coming up with ways to ease the impact of inflation.

They're set to examine a wide range of measures including more electricity vouchers, food subsidies, cuts to VAT and things like stamp duty on credit cards.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says the big increases in inflation means budget measures haven't worked:

"The Government acknowledges that the cost of living is rising. It's rising very, very fast at the moment faster than it has in 20 or 30 years. And people are feeling the squeeze. We've already taken action, much of which was opposed by your party, some of which was not. And we acknowledge, though, that the action that we've taken to help families with the cost of living is not enough."
