The Taoiseach says he could have worded his comments better when he told young people planning to emigrate "that the grass isn't always greener".
His remarks were in response to an opinion poll last month which indicated two-thirds of Irish 18 to 24-year-olds were considering a move abroad, over rising rents and the 'cost of living crisis'.
Leo Varadkar later agreed he could have made the point better:
"Huge numbers of EU citizens choose to come to Ireland, not because the rents are low, or because the housing situation is so good - far from it, but because this is a good country to live in. There are very good economic opportunities here as well. I think that was the point I was making. Perhaps the words weren't the right ones".
