The cost of living crisis is hitting the pub trade hard.

That's according to the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland following the publication of a new consumer pulse survey.

The survey revealed more than 4 in 10 Irish adults are planning fewer visits to pubs for the remainder of this year due to cost of living concerns.

Just last month it was revealed that up to 300 pubs across Cork are at risk of closing their doors this winter due to rising energy costs.

Publicans are seeing electricity and oil bills rise four fold meaning they could be forced to close or run on reduced opening hours.

Speaking to RedFM News, owner of Farrell’s Bar in Youghal, Michael Farrell says pub owners are very fearful about the coming winter.
