The Government has been urged to engage with unions representing the care and community sector, or face further industrial action in September.
The call from SIPTU comes as 400 of it's members - who work as personal assistants for the Irish Wheelchair Association - go on strike today.
They're demanding their first pay rise for 14 years, warning that their pay rates are so poor staff are looking for work elsewhere.
SIPTU's Adrian Kane says today's one day strike is just the start of a wider campaign.
"This is part of a wider campaign called Value and Care - Recognising Work, of which FORSA and the INMO are also constituent members.
"We have focussed on escalating the dispute in September in which there will be more strikes, unless the Governement engages with us."
