A man accused of robbing an 86-year-old woman's sweet shop in Navan, Co Meath, has been refused bail.
The 52-year-old is also accused of smashing the window of an Insomnia café and taking a mobile phone.
Patrick Hand, of Leighsbrook Lodge, Navan, appeared at Dublin District Court today.
The unemployed father of one was charged with robbery of the Oriel sweet shop in Navan and burglary of an Insomnia café in the town on Thursday.
Voicing objections to bail due to the seriousness of the case, Garda Alan Shine said it was alleged a man entered the sweet shop and approached the elderly shopkeeper.
The contested bail hearing was told that the woman reported to Gardaí that the raider had his sleeve pulled over his hand, as if to conceal something.
It was alleged the man began roaring and shouting at her until she handed over 14 euro, and he left.
Defence solicitor Michael Kelleher said his client did not make admissions but said he had been in the area.
Judge Bryan Smyth refused bail and remanded Mr Hand in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
