The Housing Minister insists the government will meet new home completion targets this year, despite pressure to accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

Cabinet was today updated on plans to house those fleeing the war, which include bringing vacant properties into use and using emergency powers to speed up planning permissions.

Minister Darragh O'Brien is adamant home building targets will be met in addition to helping those arriving from Ukraine:

"It will add to the challenges. I don't expect it. We've targeted this year 24,600 new homes and I intend for us to hit that target. They are exacting targets and I see the projections. I know where we have boots on the ground right across the 31 local authority areas. I know what our pipeline is on Social Housing delivery".
