The Agriculture Minister says he doesn’t accept over 50,000 farmers' jobs are in danger because of Ireland’s greenhouse emission targets.

Charlie McConalogue says farmers’ incomes could actually increase under plans to cut emissions.

It comes as the Taoiseach prepares to address the Cop26 climate conference in Scotland later.

He's expected to pledge €225 million a year by 2025 to help poorer countries with climate change.

Minister McConalogue doesn’t feel thousands of rural jobs are on the line as Ireland responds to climate change.

"I don't accept that's where we're going.

"That same KPMG/Farmers Journal report which is based on quite conservative assumptions outlined for example and 18% reduction in overall emissions would actually see farm incomes both in beef and dairy increase, while also reducing emissions profiles."
