A Cork farmer says farmers are confused and worried following the emissions deal announced yesterday.

Harold Kingston has a dairy farm in Courtmacsherry and is the Munster Chair of the Irish Farmers Association.

The IFA have described the plan to reduce emissions by 25% as lacking detail and say it is a potentially devastating blow for rural economies and communities.

The Irish Farmers Association say the sector employs around 170,000 people.

Speaking to RedFM News, Munster Chair of the IFA Harold Kingston says farmers are still in the dark about how they are expected to reduce emissions:

"I initially thought the devil will be in the detail and now I think the devil is in the lack of detail because there's practically no detail. The only thing that I heard Mr. McConalogue on radio this morning mentioning about all the various renewables and so on, that farmers can get involved in. The thing about renewables is the actual emission reduction will come from having less animals on that land because the land has never been taken up by forestry or by solar panels."
