Thousands of students at MTU and UCC are expected to walk out of their classes later today.

Both Student Unions say the walk out protest at 11 minutes past 11 is to highlight the high costs many third level students are facing.

MTU students will gather at the West Atrium, while students in UCC are gathering at a number of locations including the Western Gateway Building, The O'Rahilly Building Garden and Brookfield.

The action has been organised by the Union of students in Ireland who are encouraging every third level student in the country to join the protest.

2022 will be the first year ever that over 1 million passports will be issued, after a rush of applications after the Covid pandemic ended.
