Rockets have been fired and intercepted at Kabul airport in Afghanistan as US troops prepare to depart the country.

The Taliban says people, including Irish citizens, can leave if they've been accepted by other countries.

Around 60 Irish citizens remain in Afghanistan, including Omid Ahmadi, who has lived in Ireland for 18 years.

He travelled to Afghanistan with his wife and two daughters before the Taliban seized control and they're now stuck there:

"We were called to go to the airport by our embassy stuff there. But the route that we have been called was chaos. There were over 10,000 people waiting outside the airport now. These were the people who wanted to flee Afghanistan."
