Despite initially defending a drone strike in Afghanistan last month, US forces have now admitted it was a mistake.

The Pentagon says as many as 10 civilians, including up to seven children, died in Kabul.

It doesn’t think any militants from Islamic State were killed.

General Frank McKenzie, the head of U.S. Central Command, says it hasn't turned out as they first thought:

"I'm here today to set the record straight and acknowledge our mistakes. I will end my remarks with the same note of sincere and profound condolences to the family and friends of those who died in a tragic strike."
