Spiralling levels of dangerous radiation have been discovered in the Chernobyl region following the recent military invasion.

The region, which is home to the area affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, was besieged by the Russian army in the first few days of the ongoing war, trapping over 300,000 citizens without food, water, or medical supplies.

Chernobyl Children International, which is based in Cork, is deeply concerned about the reports of an alarming rise in the levels of radiation in the area.

The charity says huge populations are at an extremely high risk of being contaminated due to inhaling, ingesting, and drinking radioactive water that is present in the region and calls are being made for the immediate evacuation of the most vulnerable.
