Health officials earlier briefed the government following a spike in Covid case numbers, with over 2,000 cases recorded today.
The surge has cast some doubt on the reopening plans.
Micheál Martin says the situation is concerning, and a final decision will be made next week:
"Presentations were made to officials and I received a briefing on that later this afternoon, in respect of the growth in the 7 day incidence and in terms of the pattern of the disease and affecting all age groups now at this stage. So that is a matter of concern, that's what I'm saying right now. And therefore we have to feed that into whatever decisions we make early next week."
