In a statement issued to RedFM News Garda Press say that in the course of making an arrest Gardaí were obstructed both physically and verbally in the course of their duties and further criminal investigations are now ongoing in relation to these incidents.

In September Garda Commissioner Drew Harris was asked to appear before the Cork city and county joint policing committee over manpower shortages in Carrigaline

Concerns had been raised by local politicians in the past saying gardai in the Carrigaline area, which also serves a big hinterland including Crosshaven and Passage West, are seriously under resourced

Local councillors also claim that local gardai lack a special transportation vehicle for prisoners and their IT equipment is inadequate

Garda numbers have fluctuated in Carrigaline over the past two years but in September there were 22 stationed there

This latest incident which was filmed and is circulating on social media shows Gardai being obstructed as they responded to an incident in the town involving a group of youths

Gardai say they are aware of the videos and say it should be noted that these videos clearly show that the persons Gardaí were dealing with on the night were teenagers, the vast majority being juveniles,

They say as a community based police service An Garda Síochána needs the support of the Community, their representatives and the parents of juveniles to ensure that the youngest in the community are not just aware of but also practice their social responsibility and do not end up unintentionally being involved in criminality and referred to the Statutory Juvenile Diversion Programme or before the Criminal Courts.
