COVID-19 UPDATE: 1,173 NEW CASES – HIGHEST FIGURE IN NEARLY FIVE AND A HALF MONTHS

79 patients are in hospital with the virus, 23 of whom are in ICU.

The chief medical officer, Tony Holohan, says half of today’s cases are among 19 to 34-year-olds, and cases are increasing in 22 counties.

5 MILLION COVID-19 VACCINES HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED IN THE REPUBLIC

Over 60 percent of adults are now fully vaccinated.

While 75 percent of adults have had at least 1 vaccine dose.

25-29 YEAR OLDS CAN REGISTER FOR PFIZER OR MODERNA VACCINE FROM TODAY

The HSE’s portal is now open to the cohort, however people in this age group can still register with a pharmacy for a Janssen vaccine.

Registration can be done online or over the phone, with appointments to be arranged in the coming weeks.

The public health advice is for those who haven’t been fully protected against the worst effects of Covid-19 to take extra measures to protect themselves.
