Uisce Eireann says it is fully committed to supporting housing development after the utility came under fire from Cork County Council's Chief Executive

Valerie O'Sullivan said the delay in more than half of 8,000 planning approvals last year and the year before for housing units in the county is largely down to Uisce Éireann.

The County Council's CEO was speaking after a letter from Uisce Éireann, relating to a stalled development of 10 housing units in Carraig na bhFear, was raised at a recent Council meeting

The letter suggested that Carraig na bhFear was number 12 in a list of priority areas submitted by the Council to the utility in 2019.

Councillors are now asking how the village's bid for a wastewater treatment plant can be progressed

Uisce Eireann says it has heavily invested in the upgrade of the wastewater treatment plants in Cork since 2014 and is encouraging any developers to contact them in advance so they can assess the water needs in the area
