A new Daft.ie report shows rents are up by 10 per cent nationally to an average of around 1,500 euro.

In Cork city rents are up over 6% now averaging 1529 euro a month, while they have jumped over 10% in the county and now stand at 1217 euro

The number of available properties to rent in Cork still remains at record lows with just 107 available on Daft in the county and 44 in the city this morning.

Labour's housing spokesperson, Rebecca Moynihan, says there needs to be better enforcement of rent pressure zone limits:

"There seems to be a real problem with people respecting the RPZ rules that are there and put in place by the government. And I really think that you need to bulk up the Residential Tenancies board to be able to go after landlords who are breaking or RPZ rules. We have to link it to inflation or below two percent."
