A proposed route for the Cork Luas is expected to be open for public consultation this year.

The light rail system would run from Ballincollig through the city to Mahon Point.

Speaking at the Cork Chamber Breakfast, Anne Graham CEO of the National Transport Authority says it's in discussion with the city council about the more complex areas of the route:

"Transport Infrastructure Ireland funded by and in collaboration with ourselves are currently undertaking a detailed alignment study to determine the optimum layout for the scheme. NTA and TII are in with discussion with Cork City Council in relation to the city centre element of the route which is one of the more complex sections of the route."
