Preparations underway in the city and county ahead of predicted torrential rain tonight, tomorrow and Thursday

Cork City Council say a limited number of sand and gelbags are available to the public and businesses ahead of an Orange Rain warning tonight from 10pm.

The bags are available at the Tramore Valley Park Civic Amenity Site on the South Link Road until 8pm tonight and from 9am to 5pm tomorrow.

The council's customer service until is also open from 8am to 9pm tomorrow to allow members of the public to report any issues on 021-492 40 00.

Cork County Council's severe weather assessment team met today to discuss preparations for the rain.

Pumps have been deployed to areas that frequently flood, and the low level flood gate at Brian Boru Square car park in Fermoy has been closed.

The Council are asking people to report fallen trees, flooding and road damage to their out of hours emergency number on 021 4800 048.

Speaking to RedFM News, Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority has this advice for road users:
