Contractors are due to be appointed in the first three months of this year and works will take around two and a half years.

The City Council says the €14 million Glashaboy scheme will protect 82 homes and 30 businesses in the area from severe flooding events.

Properties in Glanmire and Sallybrook suffered millions of euro worth of damage in 2012, with many people forced to leave their homes.
