After being silent for over half a century, the bells of the North Cathedral will ring again this weekend.
The nine bells in the tower have undergone a major 3 year restoration project, which was solely funded by the parish.
First rung in 1869, the bells were a familiar sound that announced the ordination of bishops and priests, weddings, first communions and confirmations, Sunday Masses, the Angelus, and funeral Masses for nearly 100 years.
The bells in the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne will ring following 5 o clock mass this Saturday, alongside the unveiling of new outdoor lighting.
Canon John O' Donovan, Administrator of the Cathedral says the next step is to open the tower to visitors and parishioners.
