University College Cork and the Bon Secours Hospital have opened a new pedestrian riverside walkway.
It stretches from the Castlewhite Student Residence, along the Bon Secours Hospital riverside frontage, and on to the Western Gateway Building, to connect the historical core of the university to key teaching and research facilities, built in recent years.
A newly developed underpass has been built beneath the existing bridge linking the Bon Secours site to the Western Road.
UCC's Director of Building & Estates, Mark Poland, expressed gratitude to the Bon Secours for their collaboration, stating, "This section of riverside walk is a key objective of our Masterplan, and we are delighted to see it coming to fruition."
Brendan McSweeney, BSHS Deputy Director of Capital Projects, highlighted the collaborative history between Bon Secours Hospital Cork and UCC, emphasising the benefits of the joint development for students, staff, and the general public. McSweeney added, "This also provides a recreational amenity consistent with the Health and Wellbeing plans promoted by both organisations."
The walkway will be accessible during UCC's opening hours.
