There's no reason why newly built social housing units should be vacant 9 months after construction.

That's according to City Councillor Colm Kelleher who opened 11 apartments on Mandeville Place on Pouladuff Road during his time as the city's Lord Mayor

The apartments on the south side of the city were opened along with 4 other schemes last June, but the apartments on Mandeville place are still not allocated nine months later.

The units are designed for downsizing or "right sizing" and would be allocated to people over 60 years old, who now live alone and wish to leave their larger homes which would then be allocated to someone waiting for social housing.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr Colm Kelleher says these houses need to be allocated immediately
