The reason that there is a shortage of GPs in rural Ireland is the same reason that young people feel forced out of their communities.
That's according to the Munster Vice-President of Macra, North Cork woman Aisling O'Keeffe.
Members of the rural youth group marched 79km from Kildare to government buildings in Dublinovernight, and into today.
They were highlighting 8 key points which they feel is causing young people to immigrate, including problems with housing and healthcare access.
Speaking to RedFM News, Aisling says that many people believe there is no future for them in rural Ireland:
"It all works hand-in-hand really. A lot of our trained medical professionals are also immigrating to Australia, Canada, America because of the other issues we're highlighting, such as the affordability of housing, lack of transport. So to have more GPs, and to have better health care for all of rural Ireland, we need to be in a position where our medical professionals being trained every year, want and believe that there's a future for themselves in rural Ireland".
