A Cork mother whose baby's organs were incinerated in Belgium without her knowledge says she is afraid more families will receive the same news in the coming months.

Leona Bermingham was speaking after two families were recently told that University Maternity Hospital Limerick had sent their babies organs to Belgium to be incinerated in 2019.

The scandal first broke in September of last when the families of 18 babies who died at Cork University Maternity Hospital found out their organs has been transported to Antwerp to be incinerated with clinical waste at the start of the pandemic.

A draft review into how the incident happened was due to be given to parents in November, however a number of delays have meant families still have not seen it.

Speaking to RedFM News, Leona Bermingham says one of the mothers impacted by the Limerick incident has contacted her for support:

"I know she's really struggling, so I suppose it's great to have that network that we can support each other as we're getting no support whatsoever from the hospitals. I did email last week and the update that is there is no update and they cannot give us a day of completion. It's just the unknown really, for us is what is scary. It's heartbreaking, we're getting our more normal lives and for breaking news to come out that there isn't a hospital involved when we're going about our day to day business is what is the hardest point for us."
