A new report from the United Nations warns that heatwaves, droughts and flooding will become more common and extreme unless immediate action is taken to cut green house gas emissions.

The UN Secretary General António Guterres described the report as a “code red for humanity”, while closer to home, the Green Party says more public transport and cycle lanes will reduce dependence on cars and help to cut emissions.

Speaking to RedFM News, Green Party Cllr Dan Boyle says he is optimistic that people will be able to adapt to new ways of living:

"We just need to ask ourselves questions about, is every journey we're taking a necessary journey, do we need to get from A to B in the quickest possible time. One of the things that Covid has shown us is that we can adapt and we can adapt quickly. The idea of working from home- the idea of commuting is going to happen a lot less for people now. While the problem is our energy use and trying to cut down the use of carbon, technology is going to be our friend if we use it properly in trying to adapt."
