A long running campaign to retain Pipers Wagon and Funfair in Kinsale has been resolved.

A public campaign was launched a number of months ago in support of the Piper family after they were refused permission for their Showman's Wagon to remain at Short Quay and a rise in rents for the traditional funfair at the town's car park.

The campaign was raised in the Dáil recently, and even prompted an Taoiseach Micheál Martin to ask the County Council to 'have a heart'.

The wagon was built in Short Quay and housed there since 1932 with 3 generations of the Piper family residing there.

After lengthy discussions, the Council have offered the Piper family the ability to host the traditional Funfair from Summer 2023 at previous rents with no future cut off.

The Showman's Wagon cannot go back into Short Quay due to public realm works however it's been agreed that the wagon can be located in the Town Park car park, where the fun fair is held, all year round.
