It's emerged that the group who recently closed a nursing home in Cork have paused construction on a new site in Glanmire.

On August 2nd, Aperee Living told their 49 residents and staff of the nursing home in Belgooly that they would be closing.

A public meeting on the forthcoming closure of the home has already been held in Belgooly, along with a demonstration last weekend by family members, supported by locals.

They are concerned about where their loved ones will go once the home closes.

In a statement issued to RedFM News, Aperee has revealed that the construction of their planned 100 bed residential centre in Glanmire has been paused for the last six months.

Aperee Living also said that planning permission was granted to build 20 independent living units in Rochestown, but no construction date has been announced.

Speaking to RedFM News, Independent TD Michael Collins thinks a lot of private nursing homes could be in trouble.

"If Aperee are managing that centre in Belgooly, not only are Aperee in financial difficulty, they have to answer questions because Aperee have a nursing home in Bantry also," he said.

"So there's concerns right throughout the country, but certainly in Cork county there's a lot of nursing homes either paused, or a lot of nursing homes on the edge of closure.

"The Minister can't keep ducking and weaving.... she needs to act immediately to save people from the stress that many are going through in Belgooly at this present time," he added.
