Republic of Ireland under 17 boss Colin O'Brien says his players deserve tremendous credit for booking their place in the European Championship quarter finals.

The Boys in Green defeated Tournament host Hungary 4-2 to finish second in Group A, behind group winners Poland.

Ireland will play the winners of Group B in the last 8 on Saturday.

Spain occupy top spot in that group ahead of their final group game with Serbia today.

Ireland lost to Poland in their first game, and former Cork City midfielder O'Brien says the response from his players has been superb.

"If you look at our squad of players, we're the youngest squad here.

"I'm so proud of them, because they're a great bunch of lads, they're really superb. Great personalities, great values in the players and then quality as well.

"They showed a lot of character. That first game [against Poland] was wiped away, it was in the past, there were no reactions here.

"They backed up the performance against Wales with another terrific performance tonight. I'm so happy for them - and now we go into cup football."
