The government is set to formally support a joint-bid for Euro 2028 this morning.

Cabinet ministers will back Ireland hosting the football tournament alongside England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow is the deadline to express an interest to UEFA - and it's expected to be the only bid.

Irish football legend, Ray Houghton, says it would be a great boost to the country if it's successful.

"It would great for the young kids and their development for coaches watching, and also for the Irish public, you know, to showcase the country.

"The hotels, the restaurants, the pubs have had such a tough time recently to see in six years time that there could be a vast amount of people coming into the country and hopefully, they'll be spending money and they'll be enjoying what Ireland has to provide."
