Organ donation is set to become an opt-out system in Ireland, under plans before Cabinet this morning.
The Human Tissue Bill will assume consent for organ donation unless someone opts out while they are alive.
The next of kin of the deceased can also object to removal posthumously.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says it’ll help bring down waiting lists for major transplants.
"It has been done sensitively to the fact that these will be these are very, very difficult times obviously for families involved, for next of kin and for next of kin involved.
"Ultimately, the result of this bill will be more organs available for transplant, it will be more lives saved."
