Temperatures could reach 26 degrees again today, for the second day in a row.

Yesterday Shannon Airport recorded a high of 26.2 degrees, marking the hottest day of the year.

Met Éireann expects another warm day ahead, though cloud will thicken across the west and north this evening bringing patchy rain to the area.

Emer Flood from Met Éireann says rain is also expected overnight:

"Tuesday is going to be scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the morning. However, during the afternoon on Tuesday it will be brightening up with better spells of sunshine developing from the northwest as the day progresses. It will be getting brighter and sunnier later on Tuesday, there is a change of air mast, a slightly fresher, cooler mast so it won't be feeling quite as humid."
