The Minister for Children says the core funding offered to childcare providers will never be enough to cover high business costs.

Around 130 facilities across the country have closed since March 2023.

Providers say the current funding model does not cover bills, staff wage increases and high admin costs.

Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman says he’s raised the core funding while inflation is going down:

"It's never enough. One thing I've learned as a minister, it's never enough and you understand that. I absolutely know child care care services, the cost of living pressures they faced, were huge over the last two years. We also have recognised inflation has come down. It will be 1.92% Next year, I'm growing the core funding by 15%. So there will be a significant amount of additional investment far beyond the rate of inflation to support services"
