Irish home owners have paid out over €600 million in extra charges on electricity bills since the economic crash.
The Irish Independent reports that the extra charges were placed on domestic bills as the Large Energy User Rebalancing Subvention was introduced in 2010.
The subsidy has now been scrapped, saving customers €40 a year, however increased electricity charges will mean few households will see a saving.
The charge was originally introduced as a way of helping bigger businesses.
