Publicans are worried plans to modernise our licensing laws could be shelved.

The proposed changes would allow bars and nightclubs to stay open later - but, despite repeated promises, the legislation is yet to be published.

Donal O'Keeffe from the Licensed Vintners' Association says the clock is running down on the current government's ability to get the new rules over the line:

"We don't understand the reluctance to publish it and we're calling the government to publish it. All of the work to prepare it has been done. The minister has indicated the direction she's traveling with the bill and we're urging her now to push ahead and publish it and get it enacted within the lifetime of this government".
